Biking For Ben 2019!
This will be the second annual Biking For Ben event, benefiting Alzheimers Research at The John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics. We plan on building upon the amazing work we did last year by improving the ride, raising more money, and having more fun!
In the first year of BFB, we are proud to say we raised more than $10,000 towards our cause and learned a lot about some of the amazing research Dr. Margaret Pericak-Vance and her colleagues are doing to combat this terrible disease. Additionally, we had a ton of fun in the process!
Why we started Biking For Ben:
My grandfather, Ben, was an avid cyclist. He would begin at his apartment in Hallandale and bike 18+ miles every day until he turned 85 and determined he could no longer ride.
Later in his life, he developed Alzheimer's and dementia. I was very close to him and visited him even when he no longer knew who I was due to his illness. Alzheimer's is a devastating disease and seeing its effects first hand encouraged me to help further research through fundraising.
After he passed away in 2017 I decided that I would like to give back to the Alzheimer's Community. That is why I am riding in a charity cycling event organized by the South Broward Wheelers Bicycle Club in his honor. The events proceeds benefits Alzheimer's research at The John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics. As an added bonus, when he passed he left me one of his bicycles which I still use to this day and plan to ride in the event!
This page serves to directly donate towards the events cause of finding a cure for Alzheimers.
Thank You for donating and hope to see you at Biking For Ben in November!
